I will share with you my project for the graduation year that I will try to summarize it in this essay in biology about human heart regeneration in the developmental biology course:
Human Heart Regeneration:
Many people say my heart disease, my high blood pressure, my diabetes, my......Please, don't say my, don't belong it to yourself since you aren't alone and every problem has a solution. Although heart disease had been a worldwide cause of death but we find hope with Zebra-fish studying its characteristics, its relation to human as a model organism and how it can be used for human heart regeneration.
First, Zebra-fish is a very small fish that have four blue horizontal stripes on it's body. It's heart is made up of one atria, one ventricle and bulbous arteriole while the human heart is composed of two atria and two ventricles but as all it is a heart and in both organisms it function similarly in pumping blood to be distributed to the other organs of the body.
Second, it can be considered as a model organism to study the biological processes due to the fact that it has a translucent embryo which allows us to follow its developmental stages. In addition to that it is very easy to be maintained in the laboratory and breads easily in which it lays many eggs. Finally, it can be used as a transgenic animal in which the foreign gene can be inserted into it's whole genome.
But if it is a fish, how is it related to humans? Both are very similar in their early developmental stages, having 84 % of the genetic diseases of human are found also in Zebra-fish, furthermore both share similar major organs and tissues.
All of these similarities had shed light on finding a solution of myocardial infraction caused by the blockage of coronary artery by understanding heart regeneration in Zebra-fish. Zebra-fish regeneration involves two major steps de-differentiation of the preexisting cardiomyocytes and proliferation by pak2 signals that occurs due to the inhibition of Wnt signaling by Wnt inhibitors.
So, if we understand the mechanism behind the heart regeneration in Zebra-fish we can apply it on humans. We had gain hope especially that mice are very similar genetically to humans which was approved by experiments their ability to regenerate during early stages in case of any infection. Since we are the future researchers, I had suggested my hypothesis: "Injection of induced pluripotent stem cells in the injured area" might be the solution since they are able to differentiate into health cardiomyocytes.
